I Took Some Bad Photos Yesterday, Excuse Inside

My string of bad photographs continues, but I have an excuse, my camera broke and I ended up using my Sony Handycam. I’m not sure what happened with the Nikon, but I’m hoping I remembered to fill out the warranty card. Anyway, let’s get to it…

So we’ll see what happens when I get the Nikon figured out.

In other news, I’m working on a project for a Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge Blog Hop on the 26th with some gals from Close To My Heart. It’s been fun and challenging. I can’t wait to see what everybody comes up with. Stay tuned.

I’m also really loving these papers and can’t wait to do something with them. How could I resist anything named Evangeline?

Photographing Cards, Pages, and Stuff.

I’m making an effort to photograph everything I’m making, well. It’s a lot of work and a lot of trail and error, but I made a commitment to do it.  I have a lot of work to do today.

I know just enough about photography to be a danger to myself and others. A few college classes and workshops have taught me enough to recognize good photography when I see it, and know that I inflict a lot of lousy pictures on you, my readers. For this, I’m sorry, and I promise to make an effort to do better.

I come from the dark ages, before digital photography. Some of you surely remember dark rooms, I loved them. There was something so mad scientisty magical about the chemicals and red light, seeing the images appear in the tray. I miss that. Even with all the tricks digital provides, much more economically, and simply, it will never satisfy me like working with film. I know I have more control, more options, and it’s a heck of a lot easier to start over, but I just don’t feel like I made anything.

I’m trying to embrace digital, bear with me. I’m heading down to take some pictures right now.

When Things Just Won’t Cut Right

May 21, 2012

I love my paper trimmer, I really do. It can’t be beat for trimming photos and cutting down large pieces of paper and cardstock, but it does tend to frustrate me when I’m cutting for a layout. I work from rough sketches and tend to work out my measurements as I go. Traditional paper cutting just doesn’t work for me.

I wasn’t crazy about Cricut Craft Room when I first encountered it, but I find them very useful for doing test layouts and getting measurements down. Honestly I’ve cut 100% of my cardstock backgrounds using my Cricut since I figured out how to use the layering option. The little bit of waste is more than made up for in saved cardstock by getting things right where I want them in the first place.

I Made a Card for Mom Today

OK, OK, it’s a Mother’s Day card, but it’s not holiday specific. It would make a wonderful birthday card, or just an I Love You card.

I made this card for my Love’s (I refuse to call him my boyfriend) mother. She’s very much a child of the sixties and I wanted something with a peace sign on it. I ran across this fabulous photo, it was perfect.

I love it when my cards say what I want to say.
